The only things guaranteed in life are death and taxes (see Estate Tax Returns), as the saying goes. Estate administration is the unsexy to-do list that needs to be taken care of when someone passes away. A good funeral home will take care of many items. But there are some legal and non-legal things that our clients ask for guidance on. Social security or the decedent’s job needs to be notified, pensions, retirement accounts, life insurance policies, homeowners’ insurance, condo association, the car, credit cards, online accounts, the list can get quite extensive. In short, it involved wrapping up all assets of the decedents and making sure they get to the correct person(s). Sometimes it means notifying social security and closing a bank account. Sometimes you need to get Letters of Authority from the Probate Court. There is a lot of work that goes in to handling one’s estate – whether or not you have to go through the Probate process. Dying is a lot of work!
We can help you navigate this process from simple guidance creating the to-do list to all the way through a formal probate matter! Call or email us to schedule an appointment.
